An exciting opportunity exists to join our team of Aquarists at SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium. The Assistant Aquarist position involves assisting the Curatorial department with the day to day running of the aquarium. This position involves working primarily with salt and freshwater displays. The aquarium is home to a variety of freshwater and saltwater fish, crustaceans, Tuatara and Penguins as well as acting as a rehabilitation facility for marine sea Turtles. You will have the chance to not only care for these amazing animals, but also to promote education and conservation through providing a unique experience for our visitors. This is a position working every second weekend, however on occasion there are days during the week that need cover.

About You

• Exceptional attention to detail and delivery of immaculately clean displays
• Excellent observation, organisational, record keeping and communication skills
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable including making the most of a challenging or unfamiliar environment
• Current New Zealand working rights
• Ability to bending/Stoop; Squat; Crawl; Crouch; Kneel; Balance; Climb Heights (4m); Carry and Lift up to 30kg

Desirable Requirements:

• SCUBA certification of Rescue Diver, Dive Master, Dive, Instructor or commercial diving qualification.
• The ability to pass and maintain an occupational dive medical certification
• Fantastic can do attitude
• Knowledge and practical experience within the aquarium industry
• Marine animal husbandry knowledge
• First Aid and/ or Oxygen Resuscitation training
• Computer skills using MS Office and Excel
